Magic - The Official Video
Technology has always fascinated me. To this day I have a hard time walking past a new gadget. So with the rise of AI, artificial intelligence, I saw my opportunity to really let technology work for me.
Most of the coverage I’d seen in the news regarding AI and visual media centered around “deep fake” videos. According to Merriam-Webster, a deep fake is a “video that has been edited using an algorithm to replace the person in the original video with someone else (especially a public figure) in a way that makes the video look authentic.” Well…that’s not good. But I decided to do some research of my own.
While looking around Instagram one day, I noticed that one of the groups whose music I have fallen in love with, Beautiful Chorus, had not only released a new song, but they also had a new video to accompany it. And, as luck would have it, the video was AI created! I absolutely loved it. Actually, I was captivated. All of those beautiful images morphing and changing and melting together to tell one story.
I wanted that.
Once I knew that Magic would be the debut single from the album, I started thinking of visual themes that I wanted to see in the story and the video. Nature. Celestial items. Butterflies. Lots of color. And beautiful people with their stars all aligned.
To find an artist, I went to a website that has become invaluable to me as I have been working to prepare for the release of “In Due Time”: fiverr. If you aren’t familiar with it, it’s a website where freelancers in almost any area you can think of - from graphic design to photo editing; from website development to voice over actors - post gigs or jobs they are willing to do for a certain price. Once you find a freelancer whose work and profile interests you, you reach out, share your requirements, and begin working with the freelancer to bring your idea to life.
I looked through several profiles and looked at videos from other artists, but there was one whose work I really liked. I reached out to her and shared my request. We talked about the themes I wanted to see and the flow of the video. Once I shared the music and she listened to the vibe and lyrics, it made getting to the final project that much easier.
The first version, which took about 2 weeks, was pretty close to just what I had in mind. There were a few changes that I requested be made in addition to adding both logos (mine and Honeycomb Music) for branding. One of the other things I wanted was that “old school” music video feel with the artist name and song info right on the screen.
From request to delivery, the video took about 3 weeks to complete. To say I’m happy with it is an understatement. It’s done what I wanted it to do - it got people watching, talking, and listening!
The video is a magic all its own…
Mission Accomplished!
I hope the video mesorizes you like it does me. Let me know your favorite themes and scenes in the comments!
